The Cooperative Canine

A Tail of Two Cities — How Smart SEO Helped a Multi-City Pet Pro Reclaim Her Business

A dual-location dog training and pet care website built for discoverability across both traditional and generative search. The Cooperative Canine’s redesigned GoDaddy Website Builder site blends local SEO, AEO optimization, and geographic targeting — helping this Nashville and Portland business rebuild momentum, earn trust, and get found by the right clients in both cities.

The Project at a Glance

The Challenge

Telani runs a pet care business that truly puts animals first — offering positive, fear-free dog training and pet sitting services in both Nashville and Portland. She built her reputation on trust, kindness, and results. But when she moved to Portland and opened a second location, everything stalled.

Inquiries dried up. Her site wasn’t showing up in Google searches. And even in Nashville — where she was already established — new bookings had slowed to a trickle. The stress of trying to keep things afloat in both cities was real.

Her original website was built on Wix, which had been a great DIY solution in the early days. But as competition in both cities grew, her online visibility faded. The platform made it hard to structure content in ways that search engines could easily interpret — and it didn’t perform well on mobile devices, which further impacted her reach.

It was time for a change — and fast.

The Strategy

When Telani reached out to me in December 2024, she told me: "I know I can’t afford SEO… but I also know I can’t afford not to do SEO anymore."

So I rebuilt the foundation.

1. A Clean Platform

We moved the site from Wix to GoDaddy Website Builder — not because it’s “fancy,” but because it hits the sweet spot of:

2. Dual-Location Structure Built For Search

I created a strategy that treated Nashville and Portland separately — because search engines treat them separately:

3. Keyword-Aligned Content Rewrite

I reworked every page using the exact search phrases people use:

4. Goolge Business Profile Optimization

I optimized her Nashville profile and worked to build trust signals for her Portland expansion.

5. Blog SEO Collaboration

Telani writes the content; I optimize it. Together, we’ve created a blog that builds trust and credibility performs well for the specific, real-world questions pet parents search for.

This wasn’t about hacks — just clarity, structure, and strategy that helps both humans and search engines understand her business.

The Results

Her results built gradually, realistically — and then accelerated.

“Dog training” keywords were the first to see real traction in local Google searches:

Early Progress (March):

Mid-Spring (May):

Pet Sitting Lift (July):

Pet sitting terms took longer (also normal — more competition, fewer clear search patterns).

I added:

After that push:

Neighborhood-Level Wins

AI Overview Breakthroughs

This was the biggest and most exciting shift.

Her business is now cited in Google's AI Overview for:

She has even begun getting new clients who tell her they found her on ChatGPT! That’s AEO in action — and the future of search visibility.

This shift marks a major step forward — her business is now being found through both traditional search and generative AI platforms. And with multiple clients telling her they discovered The Cooperative Canine through ChatGPT, it’s clear that digital word-of-mouth referrals from AI tools are becoming a meaningful new source of visibility. They may not show up in analytics dashboards yet, but they absolutely have translated into real-world results.

Real-World Impact

These weren’t vanity metrics. They translated into: Her business is once again thriving — steadily, sustainably, and with room to grow.

What It Means For Her Business

Telani now has:

The stress she carried for over a year has been replaced with momentum, clarity and a real path forward.

Testimonial

“Sherry has been nothing short of amazing. She thinks of every last thing that your website needs to improve traffic. There has been a noticeable bump in business since she took over managing my website and SEO. I cannot recommend her enough.” — Telani Lasoleille, Owner of The Cooperative Canine (Verified Google Review — March 2025)

Why This Project Hit Home for Me

This wasn’t just another website build. I’ve worked in the pet care world, too, and I knew exactly what Telani was up against — and how much heart and hustle goes into this kind of work. She’s a true pro who takes her role seriously and puts the animals (and their humans) first.

The best part? Her business is back on track, getting noticed, and bringing in the kind of clients she’s worked hard to earn. And when I see her name pop up in search results — or hear her excitement when clients are telling her the new ways they’re finding her — it’s a total “feel good” moment for me, too.

Telani’s one of those dream clients: collaborative, thoughtful, invested in her success, and fully trusting of the strategy. She gave me room to do my best work — and she’s now reaping the results of that partnership.

Watching her site rise in Nashville, break into Portland, and earn citations in AI Overview has been incredibly rewarding.
